The Steam Trade Lock is the bane of the existence of many CS2 traders, who are forced to wait 7 days after acquiring an item to trade it further. In this article, we’ll talk about the CS2 trade lock, how it impacts CS2 trading, and how to work around it.
Why does the Steam Trade Lock exist?
Valve instituted a trade hold to protect users from scammers. These often follow high-value items to see who acquires them, attempting to take over user accounts through a variety of methods.
The 7-day trade lock allows users to deal with the incursion and avoid losing valuable items in case you’re hacked. Additionally, if you transfer your authenticator to a new mobile device, your items may be held for up to 15 days as an additional precaution.
Can I shorten the Steam Trade Lock?
Short answer? No. Long Answer? Noooooooooo. These precautions are here for your safety, so you’re going to have to live with them. While a week might seem like an eternity when you’re holding on to a valuable item, it’s much better than losing your brand-new Karambit to a scammer.
However, there is an exception when it comes to the authentication hold, if you’ve been Steam friends with the person you’re trading with for longer than a year, that hold is shortened to one day.
Can I sell held skins on the Steam Marketplace?
Nope. It’s a hold. They’re locked. No way around it. Just be patient and the time will come. However, you can list the item on a website to find a buyer before the time expires and then sell it to them for cash as soon as the hold expires.
Can I use tradelocked skins on PirateSwap?
No. Our trades are performed instantly after you make them, meaning your items have to be available before you set them up for trade. If you have something you want to trade, simply wait 7/15 days. We’re sure the item you want will be waiting for you!
There’s seriously no way around it?
Seriously, we’re sorry!
