One of the key questions when coming into CS2 is “which maps will I be playing?” After all, whether you’re a One Map Mike, or an All-Maps Alan, you’ll want to know whether your favorite maps will be playable in the new version of CS2. So, what can you expect?

So, how do these new maps look?

Mirage returns with cosmetic enhancements. The Maghreb-based maps seem to be deemed good as-is. While the meta will change due to new smoke mechanics, the map itself remains an evergreen of sorts. So, if you’re one of those Mirage one-tricks, worry not, you’ll still be able to anchor B with no issue.

However, as we travel to Italy, things have changed. Inferno’s look is completely different, and while the layout remains unchanged, the map itself has a brand new design and vibe. More colorful, bright and vibrant, this version of Inferno is a joy to look at, with some minor changes to gameplay stemming from the retexturing. It’s going to be interesting to see how those changes impact the meta as time goes on.

Similarly, Overpass has gotten some new textures, making it brighter and more vibrant (that’s the general CS2 vibe, it would seem) without key changes to the layout. The changes are most noticeable on the approach to the A-Site, as the new park is far brighter than anything we’ve seen before. The classic toilets have been replaced by a subway station, and Optimus has gotten a new coat of paint, along with some of the park walls. Long has also become a Biergarten, so once you’re done kicking your opponents’ butts, you can kick back and enjoy a cold one there.

Nuke also got a facelift, while retaining all the modifications that made it playable and more even over the years. With the new smoke mechanics and MR12 format however, this CT-sided map has already shown to be a n interesting one in 

Finally, Vertigo, Ancient and Anubis have also gotten subtle improvements and remain in the active Duty Map Pool.

Reserve/Hostage Group:

Office

Dust 2 is back, because, of course, it is. The ultimate classic was the first map tested in CS2 and the changes to it are mostly cosmetic, as its big CS2 rework changed it to a modern version. Here, visibility is the name of the game. So, if you’re a Dust 2 fanatic, not much changes for you, it’ll be back around.

The more casual among us will be happy to know that Office received a full on refresh, changing its look and feel. While it’s unlikely to ever enter any sort of competitive play, it’s sure to be fun for hostage mode fanatics.

##The Maps to Come

We’re still waiting to see the reworked Train, but it has been announced as coming and it will likely make its grand return to the Active Duty Map Pool.

Finally, when it comes to a proper throwback, Cobblestone is rumored to be returning in a winter edition. We’re not sure when it comes out, and how it’s going to look in the end, but we’re hoping for some epic showdowns.

If you’re a casual fan, you’ll also be happy to hear that Office isn’t the only Hostage Map remake. Italy will also be getting some improvements. Will the recently-reintroduced Tuscan be entering competitive play? Well, we’ll have to wait and see.

##The absentees

Finally, there’s a big gaping hole in the Map Pool, and for legal reasons we’re unlikely to see it fixed by launch. Cache does not seem to be coming to CS2, so unfortunately it’s unlikely 
we’ll see epic juan deags from A to connector, or awesome connector AWPing anytime soon.

This is due to various legal issues related to the ownership of Cache, meaning Valve doesn’t want to risk putting it in the game without proper licensing. While fan versions will likely show up sooner and later, unless Valve figures out a way to acquire it from the owners.

What will the map pool look like after the changes?

It’s hard to say. It’s unlikely Mirage, Inferno or Overpass go anywhere as they seem to be absolute staples of the game. The newer maps are in danger of being rotated out, particularly Vertigo, which may have overstayed its welcome as a "gimmick map." However, Valve has shocked us in the past, so who knows what Premier Mode players will be playing in the coming years.

Finally, Operations might shake things up in the worlds of CS2, with new casual maps appearing to introduce a few twists here and there. Whatever the case, we're excited to see what comes next, and to bring you the best skins on PirateSwap!

## CS2 Premier Ranks (CS Rating)

CS2 Premier is the top-tier competitive mode in Counter-Strike 2, and your **CS2 Rating is a number that represents your overall skill level in the game**. The better you play (and the more you win), the higher your rating will be.

Ratings range from 0 to 30,000, and they are separated into differently colored tiers. Every 5,000 marks a new tier, and a new color: 

* 0 to 4,999 – Gray
* 5,000 to 9,999 – Light blue
* 10,000 to 14,999 – Blue
* 15,000 to 19,999 – Purple
* 20,000 to 24,999 – Pink
* 25,000 to 29,999 – Red
* 30,000+ – Gold

### Getting Your First CS2 Premier Rank

To get your initial placement, you need two things: the [CS2 Prime upgrade](https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/4D81-BB44-4F5C-9B6B) and 10 placement matches. You can get Prime from the in-game store or through Steam for $15—it’s required to play CS2 Premier matches. 

You can complete the 10 placement matches on any map(s). You’ll have limited influence over the maps you play, though—CS2 Premier matches feature a pick/ban system, where teams take turns choosing and rejecting options from the [CS2 map pool](​​https://pirateswap.com/blog/article/cs-2-map-pool-explained). 

Your performance in placement matches will give you your initial placement, which usually falls somewhere in the gray or light blue tier (under 9,000). You’ll increase your rank from there by getting consistent wins!

Before you try CS2 Premier, it’s worth learning the [basics of CS2 gameplay](https://pirateswap.com/blog/article/cs2-beginners-guide), getting familiar with tactics for every map, and training your aim until you can consistently get hits. 

### Increasing Your CS Rating

Ranking up in Premier is a little more involved than just getting wins. If that’s all it took, a high-level team could carry you through a bunch of matches, giving you a ranking boost with no effort on your part. 

The details are obscure, but we do know that CS2 uses the [ELO rating system](https://medium.com/purple-theory/what-is-elo-rating-c4eb7a9061e0) for determining how many CS Rating points you get (or lose) per match. This means that the current ratings of both teams influence the outcome, points-wise, depending on who wins. 

For example, if your CS Rating is high, and you lose against a low-level opponent, you will lose more points than if you had lost against a higher-ranking team. Put simply, losing to a noob will cost you more points, and winning against a noob will give you fewer points. 

Your individual performance during a match is also likely to be a factor, although there’s not much concrete information about it out there—Valve keeps these things pretty close to the chest. 

Ultimately, though, what matters is getting consistent wins. You have limited influence over who you play against and what their CS Ratings are, so just do your best, practice, and work your way up the rankings!

### Points per Match

How many points can you get from a single match? In most cases, expect **around 100–200 points for a win**. As usual, though, things are not quite so simple because consecutive wins or losses (streaks) also come into play. 

Streaks are a major factor in determining the number of points you’ll gain or lose. If you win several matches in a row, each win will get you more points. Similarly, if you lose a few consecutive matches, each loss will cost you more points. 

### Changing Tiers

Your CS Rating will change color every 5,000 points, as you cross into a new tier. Changing tiers is a bit of a grind: when you approach the next threshold, and you’re a few points away from “leveling up,” you’ll play several **promotional matches**. 

Winning promotional matches gives you very few points, sometimes just one or two. However, losing them can still cost you the regular number of points (100–200, even more for consecutive losses). 

This may seem unfair, but if it’s any consolation, losing your tier is also made more difficult. When you’re about to drop into a lower tier, you’ll play **relegation matches**, in which winning gets you the standard number of points, but losing costs only a couple of points.

## CS2 Competitive Ranks

In CS2, your **competitive rank is assigned per map**. It’s based on your performance on each map, so if you’re a beast on Dust 2 but still learning the ropes on Inferno, your ranks will reflect that.

The point of the per-map system is to match you with (and against) players with similar proficiency on a given map. After all, CS2 is largely a game of angles and tactics, and what works on Inferno just won’t fly on Dust 2. 

For getting a high starting rank, wins are the most important component. Your individual performance (kills, assists, deaths) plays a role, but at the end of the day, it’s the wins that matter most for determining your rank. So, squad up with your team, play the objective, and focus on winning those crucial rounds.

### Increasing Your Competitive Rank

The big question: how do you rank up? The answer is simple—win more games on that map. CS2’s ranking system is all about your win/loss ratio, with extra consideration given to the skill level of your opponents, your individual performance, and how often you’re playing on that specific map.

If you’re winning against players with higher ranks on that map, you’ll rank up faster. But losing to lower-ranked teams? Just as you can rank up, you can also lose rank if you hit a losing streak. Losing too many matches, especially against lower-ranked teams, can cause your rank to drop. It’s frustrating, but it’s all part of the process.

The best way to avoid this is to stay cool, avoid tilting, and keep improving. Even if you drop a rank or two, you can always work your way back up with better teamwork and gameplay.

## Tips for Ranking Up in CS2

Here are some tips to help you climb your way up in both Premier and Competitive ranking:

If the going gets tough, try to stay positive and focused. It’s easy to get frustrated during a bad game, but staying calm and avoiding tilt is key. Keep your cool, focus on improving each round, and remember that ranking up is a long-term grind!

Jak to zrobią?

Pierwszą zmianą jest nadanie twojej randze numeru. Zamiast dość zagmatwanego systemu rankingowego z zabawnymi nazwami (czym do cholery jest Legendarny Mistrz Orłów?) otrzymasz 

Nowy ranking to system liczbowy z różnymi poziomami. Poziomy odpowiadają następującym rangom CS:GO:

Jak widać, system jest znacznie łatwiejszy do zrozumienia i prosty. Im wyższy ranking, tym lepsza ranga. Ale to nie wszystko. Będą osobne rangi dla trybu Premier (w którym rozgrywane są wszystkie mapy z puli map Active Duty) i pojedynczych map, do których ustawiasz się w kolejce. Tak więc, jeśli jesteś zmęczony graniem przeciwko mapom z jedną sztuczką lub tak zwanym "Vertiglobals", nie musisz się już o to martwić.

##Dlaczego ta zmiana?

CS2 Ranks and CS Rating Explained (Premier & Competitive)

CS:GO is no more and CS2 is here, and we already can’t wait for the first major on the new game. So, what do we know about the major scene coming into 2024? Keep reading to find out!

The first CS2 Major is set to be the PGL Major Copenhagen, taking place March 17th to March 31st 2024 in the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark. 

##Who will participate in the First CS2 Major?
With the RMR system instituted in 2020, the Counter-Strike scene changed the way it approaches majors. No longer are winners from previous years locks for the next competition, instead getting bonus points for Regional Major Rankings which determine the qualifiers for each Major.

As of right now, the teams confirmed to be participating in the RMRs are:

Note that these are subject to change as roster and regional reshuffles may cost many of these teams their spot. The remaining spots will be fought for via RMR qualifiers throughout the next few months.

##What is the prize pool?
The Prize Pool is $1.25 million, with $500,000 going to the winning team.

##What will the tournament look like?
While this isn’t confirmed, it seems like the current setup with the Legends, Challengers and Contenders stages will return based on the RMR standings. This means that the 8 top teams from the European RMRs will get a free bye into the second Swiss Stage (aka the Legends Stage), while 16 other teams from Europe will compete in the Challengers stage to see who among them will join the top teams.

The Swiss Format, present in most Counter-Strike Majors is a ladder system where the objective of each of the 16 teams is to win three games against opponents with the same record. For example - teams with a 1-0 record play other teams with 1-0 records, while teams with 0-1 records play teams with other 0-1 records.

If you win three games you advance to the next stage, while if you lose three you’re eliminated. Both elimination and advancement games are played in a Best-of-3 Maps format, while the other games are played in a Best-of-1 Map format.

The initial draw of the 0-0 games is decided by RMR seeding, while the remainder of the games are determined by random draw among the teams with identical records.

As we’ve mentioned before, the tournament will feature two Swiss stages. The number of wins resets after the first stage. The eight 3 win teams from the Challengers stage advance to the Legends stage, while the eight 3 win teams from the Legends stage will advance into the knockout Champions stage.

The Champions Stage is a classic Best-of-3 Maps bracket seeded based on the results of the Legends Stage with Round Differential used as a tiebreaker. There, the winners face off against each other until the Grand Final, with the winner becoming Major Champion.

##Who are the favorites?
With CS2 changing the gameplay landscape and many post-Paris roster changes it’s hard to say. With the tournament still 6 months away, everything can change. However, here’s what we know:

Major champions Vitality are still going strong; however, they fell short in the new game, with the team finishing last in CS2’s first tournament - IEM Sydney. Second place finishers Apeks have lost their two top players in Siuhy and iM, replacing them with Volt and Snax and finished 9-12th in Sydney, not quite reaching the heights of old. Finally, third place finishers Apeks have looked solid in the event despite losing jL and Styko after the major and replacing them with CacaNito and Sense.

The favorites right now have to be FaZe, Complexity, MOUZ and G2 who have hit the ground running in the new game with awesome showings in Sydney. However, with the rumored transfer of Twistzz to Liquid, FaZe might be going into dire straits, with the North American org potentially returning to their former glory.

##Will there be stickers?
Almost certainly, and this being the first stickers of CS2, they may be special and become a big investment along with the capsules they’re sold in. While we doubt they’ll ever get the Kato 14 treatment, they’ll surely rise in price as the CS scene changes with the release of the new game, new competitive rules being instituted and a potential changing of the guard. It’s possible that this tournament will be a swan song for many older players. Investing in their stickers might be worth it.

##Will the CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 have a Pick ‘Em and drops?
Nothing is confirmed, however we’re inclined to believe that Valve wouldn’t miss out on a chance to get some extra hype, so we expect the Pick’Em and Viewer Pass to return. We’re skeptical about the return of free drops for watching the tournament, but then again… the first CS2 Major, the company may want to go in looking to break some records.

Not all CS2 skins are made equal, both in terms of price, and the way the patterns are generated. While some are rather predictable and not very varied within their seeds, others are more nuanced, with more than just the wear and the skin influencing their prices.

These are elite CS2 skins. Skins that have unique patterns that can make them reach record prices. These include Case Hardened, Doppler, Gamma Doppler, Fade, and Marble Fade skins.

These skins do not have a set pattern, instead, it’s generated based on a seed, with different seeds creating different colors and combinations. In this article, we’ll tell you all about the various types of these special skins and why you should look out for them.

Case Hardened - The Blue Gem

Case Hardened skins are the only skins from this category that apply to weapons other than knives, with some guns like the AK-47 also having their own Case Hardened version. 

The Case Hardened skins are supposed to represent the real-life process of case-hardening, giving weapons a unique “oil-blot” look. The most expensive version of these skins are Blue Gems, patterns where the weapon is predominantly blue, like in the case of this AK-47 and Karambit.

While a normal Karambit Case Hardened costs around 2 thousand dollars Factory New, Blue Gems can cost up to 150 thousand dollars. Getting one is random, as one very lucky CS:GO player recently found out, unboxing the knife above.

This particular pattern is extremely rare, with only 12 Blue Gem Karambits out there in the wild.

However, Case Hardeneds are hardly (ha!) the only unique patterned skins.

Dopplers

Thought the Case Hardened was complicated? Well the Dopplers are even more funky. With 4 phases and three special colorways, these can be really hard to wrap your head around. But we’ll try.

Doppler Phase 1-4

The Dopplers are made up of three main colors, red, black and blue, with the four phases differing in the amount of each color. Phase 1 is mostly black with a red streak, Phase 2 is mostly red with a black streak, Phase 3 is mostly black with two blue streaks, while Phase 4 is mostly blue with a black streak.

Overall, Phase 2 and Phase 4 are the most popular out of these phases, with Phase 4 being the most expensive at lower wear levels, and Phase 2 increasing in price in Factory New. Of course, the prices also depend on the knife type, and exact float.

Sapphire

However, its price is lower than that of Sapphires and Rubies, given that it’s not as visually appealing. This doesn’t mean its cheap, though, as it starts at around $5000 Factory New.

This is it for the Dopplers, but we still have their… greener cousins to go.

Gamma Dopplers

## General Safety Tips

You probably already know this, but just in case you don’t, remember to:
Use Two-Factor Authentication on all your accounts, including your email, Steam and social media. 
Never use the same password twice. To make sure you don’t forget the passwords, you can use a password manager.
Never share your password with anyone. Companies on the internet do not ask you for your password except for their login site.
Don’t click suspicious links. Always remember to check whether the address doesn’t have any typos (e.g. “steamcommunity.com”). If you click it and give your login details, you will give up giving scammers access to your login data and your 2FA.

These should protect you from the simplest CS2 scams. However, there are some scams that are much more nuanced and harder to avoid than others. For example…

## What is Float in CS2?

A float value is a skin’s wear rating in CS2. It’s a number between 0.00 and 1.00 that tells you how worn or fresh your skin looks. The lower the number, the newer and shinier the skin; the higher it is, the more beat-up it gets. Float value is super important because it doesn’t just affect how a skin looks—it also determines its market value. 

The difference between a low-float and high-float skin can be striking, like with the AK-47 | Legion of Anubis:

Float values are sorted into five ranges for easier classification: Factory New is the lowest float, while Battle-Scarred is the highest. We’ll look at these wear conditions in more detail in the next section. 
### How to Check the Float Value of a Skin

For skins that you own, all you need to do is right-click the skin in your CS2 inventory, select “Inspect”, and you’ll see the float value listed under the skin’s details.

Float is one of the key factors that affect the value of a skin. Typically, skins with the lowest float are more expensive than those with higher float values. 

### Checking the Float Value

When buying or selling skins, pay attention the exact float value, not just the wear condition. If you’re looking at listings of a skin with 0.00 and 0.05 float, they will both belong in the Factory New condition, but the 0.00 skin is in fact much more valuable than the 0.05, due to its rarity.

Both of these are technically Battle-Scarred! The first one has a float value of 0.457, and the second almost 1. 

This is another reason why you should always check the float value of a skin you want to buy—it could look completely different from what you expect based only on the wear condition.

### Rare and Special Float Values or Conditions

As we’ve already mentioned, the rule of thumb is that lower-float skins will be more expensive. That’s not always the case, though!

Skins at either extreme end of the spectrum, so with the lowest possible float or highest possible float, will be much, much more expensive than other floats. So, you could see a situation in which a Battle-Scarred skin with a float of 0.99997 would be more expensive than a Factory New one at 0.054. It’s not so much about the appearance of these skins, but more about the rarity and collectible value. 

Some skins are also more popular in their Battle-Scarred versions. For example, AWP | Asiimov skins in Battle-Scarred condition can be more expensive than those with the lowest float values. They’re affectionately known as “Blackiimovs,” due to the all-black scope they sport.

Valve instituted a trade hold to protect users from scammers. These often follow high-value items to see who acquires them, attempting to take over user accounts through a variety of methods.

The 7-day trade lock allows users to deal with the incursion and avoid losing valuable items in case you’re hacked. Additionally, if you transfer your authenticator to a new mobile device, your items may be held for up to 15 days as an additional precaution.

Can I shorten the Steam Trade Lock?
